Ocean Sunfish

One of the most elusive fish in the world, the ocean sunfish is also the largest and heaviest bony fish on Earth. It was filmed off the coast of Santa Maria Island by diver and photographer Miguel Pereira. Despite its enormous size, sightings are relatively uncommon, as the species spends much of its life in the open ocean. It is occasionally observed near the surface, where it may bask in the sun or allow seabirds to remove parasites from its skin.
