A band discovered purely by chance while playing on the taxi radio as we were returning home from the lighthouse. The driver described them as a retro-progressive rock band. In reality, CHON were part of a new generation of instrumental progressive rock musicians, blending the technical complexity of progressive rock with influences from metal, jazz, and math rock.
The result is a group of musicians whose work consists primarily of instrumental pieces built around two virtuoso guitars in counterpoint, a melodic and irreverent bass, and a drummer with plenty of personality.
“Suda” is well worth a listen (from 2:15 onwards in the video).
