“In a Broken Dream” was recorded in 1969 by the Australian band Python Lee Jackson, featuring a then-unknown Rod Stewart on vocals. Legend has it that the band paid him with a set of new seat covers for his car in exchange for lending his voice to the song. Re-released three years later, just as Stewart’s career was beginning to take off, the single climbed the UK charts. That same year, however, the band disintegrated.
