Adriano Celentano explained that he created the song as an imitation of American rock music—he had always been a great admirer of Elvis Presley, as can be seen from his hip movements—and at the same time as a way of demonstrating how the English language sounds to those who do not speak it. The result was a song with an infectious rhythm that inspired many listeners to attempt to “translate” it into English, turning its lyrics into something reminiscent of Lewis Carroll’s Jabberwocky from Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland.
